Matco 6" Pnuematic Tailwheel Assy. | 06-00831 |
Matco tailwheels use a fiberglass reinforced nylon wheel with an operating load of 450 lbs. It takes over 5000 lbs to fail the wheel and it will hold up in the most rigorous conditions. Can be used with 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" leaf spring. These tailwheels are steerable, and are available with a 6 inch hard rubber solid tire or with 8" Shin pneumatic tire and tube for heavier aircraft. Tailwheel construction is anodized aluminum. Weight: 5 lbs. NOTE: The 7" tire comes in gray. |
Very sturdy construction. Also very heavy. Not sure it’ll work on a legal ultralight.

Replaced the 1.5 with this 3 tailwheel on our BushCaddy R80. First impression out of the box, ..its beefy and certainly should provide better floatation. Like it!
Product was everything I expected. Mattie at the front desk was very knowledgeable. Shes a keeper and has a great personality
Well finished tailwheel assembly. Works fine. Fit nicely in my Thatcher CX4
I like the idea of a phonematic wheel for my tailwheel. I wanted one as small as I could get. A/S filled that order. The detent is a little stiff but I am sure it will work out just fine. The next item I want is a spare tube or two for this wheel.
I have a Longez and bought this tire to go on a Grove 4 front leg tire. The tire comes with a saw tooth pattern which could potentially pick up small stones from the runway and flick them back into the propeller. The tire is tough, well made (in China) and would suit a tail wheel application but I wreally wanted a slick or a straight groove tire that will fit up into my Longez nosewheel bay. Can anyone assist???

The wheel is a two piece wheel and does not require any special tool for mounting the tire. You would split the rim in two pieces by disassembling the "insert" into the tire. The wheel tie bolts are AN-3 bolts so 3/8" hex heads.
This wheel incorporates a geometric release mechanism that allows the wheel to caster after reaching a |steered angle of 40 degrees. This allows the tail wheel assembly to be steerable and full swiveling and provides easy installation with variant spring tension.
Yes, the solid tire and wheel assembly can replace the pneumatic tire and wheel assembly.
Per the assembly drawing provided under the overview description, it uses a 2.80/2.50-4 tire, so the 06-08000 tire and 06-08101 tube would fit this unit.
