Great tool that is well designed. The cap that comes with it fits on most bottle jacks and makes a good secure jack point.

Easy to install. Holds in place until its removed. Made jacking the plane up to change bearing a breeze.

I made my own similar to this. I just wanted to recommend the use of a piece of leather between the jack and the gear leg. It slips less and protects the gear leg paint

Q: What is the contact surface? Is it only the painted yellow metal, or is there a rubber pad on the gripping surfaces, or...? Also, what is the depth of the gripping surfaces (i.e., the dimension corresponding to gear leg thickness)? Weight?

The contact surface is yellow powder coat. The pad is designed to slide into place (angled gear) and the pad will not move, the side brackets are angled. You can put on a shop towel or rubber backing if you like. The depth of the gripping surfaces is 1". The weight would be 5lbs.
