PR-1005-L is an aircraft integral fuel tank slosh coating designed as a topcoat or barrier coating, cured to resist prolonged exposure to both jet fuel and aviation gas. It has a service temperature range from - 100F (-73C) to 250F (121C), with intermittent excursions up to 275F (135C). PR-1005-L is a one part, synthetic rubber solution. The uncured material is a thin syrup suitable for application by brush, filland- drain, dip, or spray. It cures at room temp. by the evaporation of solvent to form a smooth, tough, flexible transparent film having excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates and polysulfide sealants. Test results are in accordance with MIL-S-4383 specification test methods. Color: Red; Dry time(77F): 20 mins.; non-toxic. |

I am hoping that the sealer works well. It states that it hardens in 20 minutes and in other documentation states that it is fully cured in 48 hours. After waiting 7 days the sealer was still tacky. It may have been because it was thicker in corners etc. and takes longer to dry if it is puddled up in places. So I am going to wait another week before adding fuel to the tank to make sure it is truly cured. I had leaks around rivets that were driving me crazy leaving blue fuel marks under the wing.

Used 1 quart for an 18 gallon wing tank. Flows really well with a long working time.

Has anybody tried this product in an automotive application yet? I want to seal a transparent plastic fuel cell (polyethylene) to prevent staining from contact absorption. Fuel typically contains ethanol! I see this was asked already- does anybody have an answer yet ? Grtzzz......
This sealer is way over priced first of all. Secondly, it is too thick to soak into lap seams or around river heads. I was using it to seal a hull type seaplane and it just made a gooey mess. Dries too quickly and won’t slosh. I would hate to put it in a gas tank. I used to use a spray tank sealer which was thin like water but is not available any more. That did a great job and was reasonably priced. I would not recommend this product to anyone for any job.

Per the vendor, it has not been tested with auto gas. Customers can use at their own risk.
It would be best to wait for the PR1422 material to completely cure before applying any other product over it.

This is made to work with aluminum tanks and should work on fiberglass tanks as well. This will not work on FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) tanks.
This material can be poured in the tank, and sloshed around to coat the inside of the tank, but the manufacturer does not offer an estimated coverage.
There is no information regarding painting this material when cured, but it is a type of synthetic rubber compound, so refer to the paint manufacturer to determine if that paint will adhere to a synthetic rubber surface.
