Reviews

Its a nice power supply but has a few issues. The first issue noticed is that nether the voltage settings on the placard or the voltage indication on the meter are accurate. So if you are looking for precise voltage settings, you will also need a good external voltage meter. The second issue is sparking in the main body while turning the nob. The brush that moves over the loop coils is a sharp point and the coils are not smooth. After a few uses, the brushes wear down and leave brush residue between the coil loops. The sparking can be a bit dramatic. I cant suggest a fix because any modification might void a warranty. I was able to fix mine. Lastly, the unit is designed to handle 5 amps, and is protected with a 5 amp fuse. 10 amps would have been better. Other than the listed issues, I found the unit to be a nicely built simple variable AC power supply, but there are allot more precise power supplies that control both the amps and the voltage at a similar or lower cost.

Q: I am sure this will but thought I would ask anyways as I am new to foam cutting.... but this will work with a foam cutting bow, correct, to adjust temp of the hot wire? USMC Veteran

You're correct. This is used to control the temperature of the wire when used to cut styrofoam with a hot wire frame tool.
