Overview

We searched high and low for an affordable runway light fixture. Affordable was the problem. A typical runway edge light fixture starts ~$250 and more typically come in ~$325 for the pedestals, breakaways, and mounts. We decided we could do better. This affordable solution will get you a wonderful light for under $60 each. Amazing!. That savings really ads up quickly when you are buying many lights for your runway.

After a lot of testing, years worth actually, we developed a very cost effective, reliable LED solution that is both easy to install and easy to service. It is only single step single intensity. It is not dimmable. We have not been able to source a reliable, dimmable, multi step LED that can stand up to the torcher of blinking and different intensities. Our part components are readily available around the world. Its design is around the simple 32oz wide mouth Mason Jar. Why the Mason jar? Pretty simple. Glass, made by the millions, available anywhere, cheap, heat resistant, proven reliability.

The bulbs are LED which come in white, red and blue with E26/E27 bases for maximum compatibility long term. Depending on the color they range from 4watts for the white, to 7 watts for the blue and red. All bulbs are certified to at least IP46 (high pressure water jets from any direction) standards.
  • White – Runway Edge Lights
  • Blue – Taxi way lights
  • Red – Approach lights
  • Green – Threshold
What do you get with each light:
  • Adapter made in the USA from structural ASA material. This material is VERY UV resistant, strong, thermally stable, and chemical resistant. Designed for the outdoors
    • Designed for a standard 32oz North American wide mouth Mason jar. Contact us if you have different requirements.
    • Bottom hole is for a standard 1.5″ pvc pipe for your riser.
    • Weep holes for moisture to escape and keeping critters out
  • O-ring to seal the jar threads and keep rain water from infiltrating.
  • E26/27 Electrical water proof socket with 6″ pigtails
    • Rated Voltage: 110-250V. 660 Watt max. Rated Current :6A
    • Waterproof E26/E27 medium base light socket made of high quality copper and bakelite.
    • Fully sealed with glue filling for Waterproof seal, Heat-resistant temperature up to 200 degree
    • LED bulb of your choice at check out. NOT dimmable. They do not withstand repeated on/off cycles.
    What you will need:
    • A mason jar – These run $3 each by the dozen. I can not ship them for what you can buy them for from anywhere shipped to your door.
    • Riser – 1.5″ PVC riser out of the ground. ~10″ of a riser above ground, with 2″ in the ground works pretty well as this puts the top of the light ~14″ above the ground which is the international standard. This pvc size was chosen for its cost, and strength for the task of supporting the unit above the ground. If you have a different riser requirement, please contact me. I have made many different adapters for customers. You might notice that in the product pictures, that customer had a 4″ pvc riser already for their older halogen lights, and I simply made an adapter for them.
For light planning, maximum distance between lights should be no more than 200′, and 150′ is the sweet spot. Red for the ends, white for the edges, and blue for turn offs. Consult your electrician for wire sizing and wire layout options. A typical 2500′ runway will draw under 2 amps for the lights on a 110v circuit. Amazing! See the white paper below for details.
