Nice, light starter, but I can not understand why a core is not accepted from a 149-12LS just to change installation to a 149-12XLT. It is like adding 200 bucks to the pricetag without a corecharge.

Love the starter. The core charge seems crazy on a new starter?

Great starter, but make sure you figure out a solution for the starter cable because it will likely be too short! Bogert sells both a 3 and 6 extension lead, but we opted to buy bulk cable and fabricate it ourselves.

Easy install and works great. Gave me about 9.5LBS useful load back.

This is a great starter. I use on my RV6A 0-360. Its quiet and powerful. I gained 9.5 lbs. by removing my Prestolite starter. The install was easy, exactly the same wiring.

Good: this order was promptly and correctly shipped. The new starter worked perfect. Bad: But this is my second starter with only 200 hours. My original starter broke where the casting supports the front of the engagement gear (a SKY-TEC problem). I had to order twice as UPS messed up the shipping of my first starter replacement order.

I installed this starter about two years ago before it failed. I look at what I paid then, about $600, and what it would cost me now, $1200 (+ core charge) and I feel frustrated with an inferior product and ripped off as a consumer. I will say: I should have gone with the high torque model as it has been working better than this ever did when it was new but the expense and the total lack of caring from Hartzell that their product failed in very little time still makes me give it one star.

Q: What is the difference between 10/12 pitch and 12/14 pitch, and also the difference between 122 and 149 tooth ring gears? Maybe a better question is why would a person choose one (pitch or number of teeth on the ring gear) over the other.

A 122 tooth ring gear has 10/12 pitch, and a 149 tooth ring gear has 12/14 pitch. These engines can use both ring gears, so you must identify what is installed on your engine to select the correct starter.

Q: What is the weight of the 149-12XLT starter?

Its just under 7 lbs.

Q: What is the warranty on these starters? And whatever it may be, is it from time of purchase or time of installation if I want to have one on the shelf for customers?

24 months/1000 hrs. Starts at time of install.

Q: I have a Skytec 149-12 LS, will you except this on core if I purchase a Skytec 149-12 XLT?

Yes, that would be a valid core.
