I have been using Camguard for 8 years on my IO-360 in my Mooney, and when we had to pull two cylinders after 1700 hours, my mechanic was amazed. Piston pins pushed put with his finger, and the inside of the engine was clean with no varnish or noticeable buildup. He said he had never seen anything like it in his 50 years of aircraft work, and was going to start using it in his personal planes and recommend it to all his customers.
Best thing I can say about Camguard is for me, it works exactly like the manufacturer says it will. And that is all I ever want from a product.

This stuff is incredible. I used to run Aeroshell 15W50 and W100plus until I realized it made my engine leak, and didnt stop corrosion. Expensive, and didnt work.
Now I run W100 and Camguard. I have been flying piston aircraft for almost 50 years now, and this stuff works, as an extreme pressure lubricant - cam lobes - and on internal corrosion - cam lobes and cylinder walls - and it even stops valve sticking when you park it.
Incredible. I wish I was sponsored by these guys. I know its not cheap, but see what Willie Nelson says on that subject.

One of the best aviation oil additives there is around. I use it in my aircraft and recommend it highly to my customers. This especially true during the winter months when many of the aircraft sit idle in their hangars.

Should be part of every oil change and any time oil is added between oil changes. Nothing is more important than keeping those moving parts well lubricated and protected.

I’m based out of the Houston area with my hangar less than 12 miles from the Gulf Coast. Since I started using CamGuard Aviation Oil Additive I’ve seen significant reductions in wear components in my oil analysis. I’m convinced that CamGuard is helping to reduce corrosion and protect my engine.

I have been doing oil analysis on this engine since the rebuild. Once I started to add the camguard the wear metals dropped lower along with the aluminum and chrome. This tells me that it is reducing rubbing wear and corrosion. I change oil and filter every 35 hours and fly about 100-150 hours per year for business. I am a proponent of preventative care to keep me from getting stranded, and reducing my operating cost. The lab has comment on how good the oil samples look, so they are confirming my evaluations.

Hands down, best and cheapest insurance policy to maintain engine longevity on an engine that is owner-flown. A flight schools plane sees regular use and wouldnt benefit from this. But if you fly once a week or less, YOU NEED TO USE THIS. I run this in addition to the AD-required LW16702 Lycoming Additive for my C172N O-320-H2AD engine. Some say its a waste and Im paying twice for protection - but the LW16702 is anti-scuff. Cam Guard keeps the oil on critical surfaces (cam lobes and bearings, tappets, cylinder walls) longer to help keep corrosion at bay.

Camguard is a great product that checks out with EVERYONE you talk to about it. I dont change the oil in my IO-540 without adding a pint at each change. Just be careful not to order more than you plan on using in a years time frame as it has an expiration date printed on each bottle.

The five stars are really for ACS and their customer service. As for the cam guard, I believe it has benefits but really have no proof. When I buy a case of Phillips 20w50 I open each bottle and add the 1.6 oz I think it is per qt? to every bottle and mark the bottles. Dont have to measure every time I add. Theres enough space in a full bottle to take the Cam Gaurd and leave some air space.

Bought an IO-390 equipped RV-7A several years ago which the previous owner didnt fly much. Iron was in the low 20s according to Blackstone and started using CamGuard after purchase. Iron dropped to 10-11 and is consistently in this range. Cant say enough about this product and its benefits for engines in high humidity environments and for those seeing irregular use.

I started out several years ago using a/s 15w50 in my io360l2a lyc in my 172s and really had no problem with it. with 300hrs on engine since new, it used about 1qt every 15 to 20hrs. after a few years with about 800 hrs on engine, I decided to start adding cam guard as per instructions on bottle. ( 1.6oz per qt ) within 25 to 30 hrs , all the sudden I was using 1qt pr 7hrs. I called Ed Collins,(cam guard) and told him what happened. he told me he had heard of this before and suggested switching to phillips xc20w50. after a couple of oil changes using the xc and camguard, my oil consumption has gone down to about 1qt per 12hrs. with a little over 1000 hrs on engine. my oil stays fairly clean and compression as always around 78/80 . aeroshell says you dont need camguard with their oil so who knows??? jst fyi !!! Ill probably stay with camguard and phillips.

Use it on the last oil change of the year for float flying before storing the plane away for the winter. I also use it on the Ski Plane during winter months as burning moisture off can be very challenging. I have no proof it actually helps however if you get that stuff on your tools good luck getting it off. Very protective oil indeed.

Im not sponsored by Camguard, but I wish I was.
This sh1t is magical. Not only does it slow down internal corrosion, which is a major killer of privately-owned Lycomings, it also reduces valve sticking. Magic. I like to use 10% so I can smell it on final when I pull the throttle back.

My instructor told me yesterday while we were flying my Piper Cherokee which I decided to try Camguard in that he was sold on Camguard. I guess I wont know for sure it did its thing until the hundred hour but the plane has run perfectly and cooled well since we put the Camguard in.

Is Camguard the same as Motorkote?
I have put a drop of each on a paper towel, and they certainly look and feel the same.
There is not much of a savings going with Motorkote (available at Wal-Mart) at $26 for 20 fl oz over Camguard from Aircraft Spruce. So I stick with Camguard, but I cant help but wonder if its not exactly the same stuff.
Another thing. I do not believe that you have to use Camguard at every oil change. I change my oil and filter every 25 hours, and believe that it lasts up to four oil changes.
So my opinion is, what ever you use, do use something. For I feel that an anti-corrosive, anti-scuffing agent is well worth the money.
I dont fly without it.

I have to admit that Im generally in the camp of additives are complete snake oil. But Ive been using CamGuard for 2 years now and every time I do an oil change I do oil analysis. Each time Ive done it, my numbers get better. Last time my 2500+ hour engine is showing in the green for all wear metals.
So Ill be using CamGuard every time.

Camguard oil additive makes a remarkable difference in high-output large-bore aircraft engines. In my turbocharged Piper Mirage, it has cleaned up piston rings, oil does not get black and smelling anymore. I like Camguard with less-expensive Phillips X/C which has no synthetics.

There are so many variables in keeping an engine running well it is hard to tell what the impact is from any one maintenance initiative.
I overhauled my C85 with new ECI Titan cylinders 7 years and 800 hours ago. I went through great pains to break in my engine properly and have used Phillips 20/50 with Camguard since the 25 hour mark.
Just did my annual and my engine tested out to 80 over 80 on three cylinders and 79/80 on the fourth...COLD. And that is essentially the results I get every year.
I change my oil every 25 hours and send samples out to Blackstone for analysis at least twice a year. Wear metals always test out nearly perfect.
Did Camguard help get me here? I think so and based on my experience I would highly recommend using it.
Mike

Ive used this before, on multiple recommendations, but had three engine teardowns because of galled cam & lifters, the last at 1,400 hours. Changed engine after the third problem. Using CamGuard the entire time.
Package arrived early with no leaks. I wish the Alcor TCP wouldnt leak. Every TCP order has had some leakage - in the new quart cans. Never was a problem in the old cans, either quart or (no longer available) gallon. But, thats the TCP rant.

I have asked a number of people about the need for this additive. Some say its the greatest thing since sliced bread, others say its a placebo. No one says it is detrimental. The engine overhaul company I used recommends straight Aeroshell W80 for September-to-May use and Aeroshell W100 for summer. Having a medium twin, my aircraft takes 5 gallons of oil per oil change, so I purchased a 55 gal drum of W80. The summer change I purchase 12 quart cases. The previous owners used Camguard ...
If youre going to use it, purchasing in quantity is more economical.

I fly on average 2-3 times a month and have found its not enough so I use Camguard to add additional protection to the engine. I have not been able to compare this product with other additives, but with the high humidity in Hawaii and using nitrate cylinders Im of the opinion that the aircraft engine needs protection from the elements.
