I always lube my new oil filters with a few drops of oil. Many years ago I read the directions and they said to do this. Now they say install it dry. Evidently, I must reread directions each time I do something. This seemed so simple but No.

I like the hex head for torquing and the new seal technology that requires no lubricant. Make sure to wipe the mating surface on the engine clean of any lubricant and install the filter to a dry surface.

This will help improve oil quality in these old engines!

Ive been using Tempest filters and spark plugs since the Champion rep at Oshkosh tried to tell me there was absolutely no problem with their spark plugs. Tempest has great products.

Tempest filters are great. I like the magnetic chip catcher and the new self lubricating seal. The only thing I would recommend when removing the filter for change is to use a 6 point socket. Twice now I stripped out the torque hex head while attempting to remove with a 12 point socket. Otherwise a superior oil filter.

These filter have been great for my Champ and Spruce the best in shipping.

Just installed so I cant give it a higher rating yet. Went on as expected.

Like others I tried the Tempest filter because it is more economical than the Champion brand. They seem to do the job. Oddly, however, while I have never had trouble unscrewing a Champion filter, I had a heck of a time removing the Tempest filter yesterday. Because I don’t fly nearly enough these days the filter only had 35 hours on it since the last annual. This is not going to stop me from buying and using Tempest filters. I just thought it amusing because of the hype Tempest makes about easy removal.

The oil filter application guide for Cirrus said it will fit SR20. Use 48109 for SR22. I ordered 48109 and it did not fit because of the AC line. If you have air condition, use 48108-2

Ive got foreflight cool airplanes that we are using these on. For 30 years I used to Champion but I thought Id try these because the cost was a little bit lower and I go through a lot of filters. So far everything is fine about them, the only reason Im not giving them 5 stars is that since the gasket has to be dry, I have to let the oil drain overnight in a couple of my airplanes because theres no way to get the filter on there fast enough that a little bit of oil isnt still dribbling by. Thats a little bit of a pain in the butt for me to have two drain oil night and then first thing in the morning finish an oil change! I sort of wish they did not have the fancy gasket, I never had problems in the past getting the champion filters off so this feature doesnt really impress me.

Much better quality than the other brand at a much cheaper price. I havent had one get stuck when correctly torqued. Read the new instructions on the Spin EZ type of seal prior to use.

I like these filters. Availability and price are not ideal. Also, while they are supposed to be self lubricating, I find that they adhere to the filter adapter too snugly compared to the original filter plus lubricant.

I fly a twin so I need two filters. My find is Tempest was much better before they starting using the no DC4 on the seal. To pull the filters can now be a challenge because they simply are much harder to remove and they were torqued to the proper value during the install.. Called Tempest today and they said, you can remove the additive on the seal by wiping the seal with a wet rag. My opinion, if it isnt broke dont fix it. Im going back to Champion.
