The RPM-2 is a 3 1/8” sunlight readable color display instrument providing two universal RPM inputs that is primarily intended to measure engine and/or rotor RPM. The display can be configured to display single or dual RPM or it can be configured to display engine and rotor RPM as used in helicopters and gyroplanes. The RPM-2 also has a maximum values display screen as well as a handy magneto check function. The RPM-2 includes a number of timers such as a Hobbs meter which can be set to the current engine time and is also password protected, an engine running and flight timer as well as a programmable maintenance timer to schedule routine engine maintenance. The RPM-2 can also be interfaced via the CAN bus to an external RDAC unit (Remote Data Acquisition Unit). This allows for easier installation as the RDAC unit is normally mounted in the engine compartment. |

This works on a Hirth 3203 with fuel injection in parallel with a Grand Rapids GRT-2000 engine monitor. I was looking for a tach that is much brighter and easier to read in bright sunlight than the GRT, which is otherwise doing an outstanding job. The 3203 has two tach outputs. One is dedicated to the fuel injection controller and the other to the GRT. Therefore, I did not have a spare signal for a second tach. I am running TinyTachs on the engine but this is a pusher configuration. The leads for the TinyTachs and other inductive-pickup-type tachometers cannot be extended by the 12 feet I need for this pusher. The only choice is to jump off the GRT signal in parallel. An Aviasport tach did not work. It pulled down the GRT above the mid-3000 range and reported incorrect RPM below that. Flight Data Systems has a good tach but they explicitly said it would not work with the Hirth. The MGL Blaze RPM-2 works perfectly. Pulses per rev is six. No can bus connection. Extremely bright and daylight readable, and exactly the same RPM numbers as the GRT up to max RPM. I highly recommend this for the Hirth 3203. The MGL Vega RPM-2 is the smaller version of this at two and a quarter inches.
This gage works great. just took a little bit getting use to it over the stock kind but once I got use to it I really like it

Yes, this should work fine on the Rotax 912.
Per the manufacturer, yes this will work with E-mags for proper reading. They also noted that both RPM inputs of the RPM-2 will be used in order to properly display engine RPM. When a mag-drop test is performed, the RPM output of the mag being tested will not be active.
The preferred method is to use the T1A9-1 Slick tach sensor and connect that to RPM input 1.
You will need to procure either a hall-effect sensor that will read magnets in the flywheel or a tooth counting sensor.
