I only used this cutter once since purchase and it works perfectly. I already knew this from working with tubing and pipe cutters, you don’t crank down on the knob to apply a lot of pressure initially on the cutter wheel. Just turn the knob a little bit and then spin the tool around the filter can and then turn the knob a little more after each spin around the can. Just let the cutter wheel do the work slowly.

This product works great. Sharp blade cuts filters open quickly. I put the filter into my bench vise, rotate the tool, the filter is open.

Worked great. Followed recommendation on youtube to use a vise to hold the oil filter and then tighten the cutter slowly in increments with a few rotations between each tightening.

Easy to use, cut the filter open in less than one minute.

The cutter works great. The two Allen (Hex) key screws were difficult to loosen for the cutter wheel to slide and adjust to the filter diameter and cutting force. Once you get over this, the cutter is a charm.

I have three complaints against this product: The first is that, while it says it is made in the USA, the bearings on it very clearly say Made in China. As someone who likes to buy American as much as possible, this was slightly irritating as I was explicitly looking for an oil filter cutter made in the United States. The second complaint is that the washers that hold the slider on were upside down. As any aircraft mechanic worth her or his salt knows, the smooth side of the washer always goes away from the fastener head to prevent unnecessary wear on the surface its touching. The third complaint is that it just doesnt cut as well or as nicely as other oil filter cutters Ive used, and just doesnt feel very nice or work as well as I hoped a $97 oil filter cutter would. But, it still gets the job done and my complaints are pretty minor.
