They work, but overall Cessna design needs an overhaul. The rubber is hard, so if they don’t move the vibrational energy will get transferred into the lower firewall brackets and they will crack. Lord uses a sectional rubber mount allowing a split configuration. But this eventually causes the rubber to split open.

Replacement was easy. I replaced 8 out 11 on my C172R. While the original 8 were not broken, they were cracked. The cowling is now tighter.

SK2003-42 are exact replacements for Cessna 172S cowl mounts at a much better price. Always good to have these handy and check your mounts frequently. Loosing just one caused others to fail much ore quickly and risks your cowling rubbing on the prop spinner.

These seem to be of better quality than the original Lord mounts. They hold the stud firmer and have a more positive feel when seating the fastener.

These are definitely better than the stock Lord mounts but still do break sometimes. There is a lot of stress on these and they need to be made out of tougher material

I maintain several 172s used for training and the OEM mounts made by Lord are lucky to last 200 hours. I think they just use poor quality Rubber and they dont seem to get any better. I started using the skybolt mounts about 1 year ago and so far not one has broken so if that Trend continues, Id be willing to give it 5 stars!

I wish you would indicate what plate mount to use and the correct stud for a particular Cessna 172
I own a Cessna 172 and I bought two plate mount
for the engine hood and I do not know what is the correct stud to buy

Cheaper replacement for the lord mounts. Get the real ones. These are difficult and you don’t find out until you’ve installed them

These are less forgiving than original. Cowl brackets and reinforcements break on a regular with flight school aircraft. Usually, damage occurs at L/H and R/H 2nd to the bottom mounts. We use Skybolt throughout except those two spots.

Three months ago I replaced the 3 mounts on the right lower cowling of my 172M. The old ones had worn out. Today I did an oil change and ALL THREE of these skybolt mounts had separated from the baseplate. I am buying the more expensive Lord mounts as these have proven sub-standard.
