FINE WIRE SPARK PLUG Aviation Spark Plug With the most automated manufacturing processes and the most innovative spark plug in the aviation industry. Made in USA. High Conductivity Copper Core Center Electrode copper, co-extruded inside a nickel alloy sleeve ensures outstanding heat and electrical conductivity while the nickel sleeve offers high resistance to corrosive combustion gases. High Alumina Ceramic Insulator high mechanical strength, superior dielectric properties, proprietary protective glaze, provides high performance to conquer severe operational conditions. "Clean Collar" massive electrode "V" tip focuses heat to reduce fouling and enhance heat range control. Proprietary Glass Center Seal 21st century 'fired in' resistor replaces the multipart screw, spring, carbon pile stack up used in competitive plugs and known to suffer from resistance value instability that can cause misfires, wasted fuel, engine roughness. Nickel Finish environmentally preferable electrolytic nickel provides outstanding durable finish, superior corrosion protection, and extreme wear resistance. Nickel Ground Electrodes aviation grade nickel electrode design focuses on minimizing sparking voltage requirements while maintaining specification gaps to ensure large, stable 'flame kernels' for on-time ignition and complete combustion. Vacuum Infused Center Electrode proprietary, vacuum infusion process seals electrode/insulator gap providing stable heat range and superior center electrode cooling (heat flow to the insulator). Hot-Lock Assembly intense pressure and heat create positive, zero-leakage, shrunk in seal between insulator and shell to contain the hot, high pressure combustion cycle gases. Harness Wire Contact smooth, uninterrupted, oxide treated spring contact surface offers enhanced corrosion resistance, is chemically bonded to the fired-in resistor providing the ultimate harness/spark plug termination integrity and energy transfer. |

I replaced my aging, but not yet completely worn out Tempest massive plugs in my TSIO-520R. I had been detecting (I think) a slight roughness particularly when trying to operate on the lean side of peak. These fine wire plugs took all of that away and then some. I can now operate deeper LOP if I so desire. I also feel like the engine starts easier as well. Of course, after paying what these plugs cost, it might just be my imagination. If I could do it all over again, Id do it all over again.
The box of plugs arrived in good shape. The packaging is such that the plugs are protected for shipping. At first start it fired right up. I immediately noticed a smoother idle and I was able to lean a little more than usual and still smooth. At run-up the RPM decrease was less than usual and the difference was almost the same between the two magnetos. The takeoff power application seemed smoother. In cruise I tested ROP and LOP configurations. I thought the engine was smoother running overall. I really felt and heard the smoother running engine on the LOP operation. Fuel flow was about the same maybe a slightly reduced FF. Cannot report on anything about long term operation.
Expensive but will last the lifetime of your engine, provide better spark for easier starts. I only bought six, plan to put them in the bottom plugs since they resist fouling better than massives. Maybe next year I will treat my airplane for the other six plugs.
Have put 1000+ hours on a set of these plugs in a Continental 520, then a 550. Never missed a beat. Still look great, almost no rust on barrels, electrode wear minimal, and internal resistance readings 1800 ohms or less. All that, and considerably cheaper than the equivalent Champion plug. Having also run the Champions for years they have suffered from rust, high resistance, and high cost. Recently read that Champion quietly changed their plug resistor design to make theirs like the Tempest. Maybe now theyll be worth buying again, but youll still save nearly 200 dollars on a set of 12 buying the Tempest.
Very hard to install. Threads were damaged in half of the spark plugs. Had to repair by hand. Disappointed in quality!

Yes, each plug includes a copper gasket.
