Yep, can just about taxi on this alone!
Powerflite PL13459 Starter 12V
Bonanza M35. Typically nose heavy, but I dont care about the additional three pounds in the nose... this starter is fantastic. It will spin my IO-470C at nearly 400 rpm... fast starts even when hot. Totally changed my startup procedure to prime, but not even open the throttle until the engine is at max rpm, then add fuel for an immediate start without overspeeding. Great addition to my Bonanza!
Powerflite PL13459 Starter 12V
What a difference! Maybe 20% faster cranking speed, exact fit replacement (since it is installed in a Beech Debonair, did not want to subtract nose weight so this heavier starter option worked well for me.

OMG! What a difference! Had a flyweight starter on my Io346a. It had locked up 6 years ago and had to be repaired. Seemed prop was turning slow. Put this starter on and not only does it spin much faster but it is much quieter too! Cold and hot starts are no problem now. Yeah!!
Replaced Sky-Tec C24-ST5 with Sky-Tec/Hartzell (formerly PowerFlite) PL13484 starter on my Bonanza V35B with IO550B. The the difference is amazing in speed of prop turning and ease of engine start.
I have a Cirrus SR22T that bought in Florida 2018. It came with the standard Skytech starter that would barely turn the engine over when it was hot, forget actually starting it. I talked with Fixed Wing Aviation about it after they finished the pre buy, they convinced me the Tempest (now Hartzell) starter would solve the problem. Night and day difference starting the engine when its hot. It spins over so fast you could almost taxis on it.!!! No more flywheel damage either. You wont be disappointed.
My mechanic replaced my stock Skytec ST5 starter with this PowerFlite starter in my Cirrus SR22 in 10/2019 and I highly recommend the upgrade. The PowerFlite has a 5 year warranty and most importantly, hot starts are much easier. Previously, the PowerFlite was branded a Tempest starter but it looks like Hartzell is continuing the PowerFlite - heres the explanation from Tempest: This is John Herman from Tempest. Let me explain the starter mystery. Our PowerFlite starter was the design and manufacture of a third party, Aerospace Components in Lakeview, MI. For ten years we sold and branded their starter as a Tempest PowerFlite. Unfortunately, I was informed in November, after the fact, that Aerospace Components sold out to Hartzell Engine Technologies.
Smooth transaction- on time delivery- great product!
Ordering from Aircraft Spruce web site was easy. Delivery 3 days after placing order. Tempest stater motor is a great improvement over original equipment. Low amp draw and fast engine turnover.

The starter alone weighs 14.15 lbs. Dimensions are approximately 7" x 6" x 5.5".
Hartzell has recently purchased Powerflight and have rebranded them as Skytec.
Yes, last year Hartzell instituted core exchange charges on new, outright starters. Whatever is being replaced on the aircraft is what should be sent back in as a core.
No, this does not come with a starter solenoid.
