Overview

Phillips 66 X/C Aviation Oil is an ashless dispersant, multigrade engine oil specially formulated for year-round use in aircraft piston engines. It provides distinct performance benefits compared with single-grade engine oils, including easier starting and faster oil circulation at low temperatures, reduced warm-up time, and reduced oil consumption in most engines. It maintains its film strength under high loads and at high temperatures to protect against wear and piston scuffing. The ashless dispersant formulation helps minimize the formation of engine sludge, varnish, piston deposits and combustion chamber deposits, resulting in a much cleaner engine compared with the use of straight (nondispersant) mineral oils.

X/C Aviation Oil was the first FAA-approved mineral oil-based, ashless dispersant, multiviscosity aviation engine oil. It has more than 30 years of outstanding, proven performance in a wide variety of aviation uses, including flight schools, charter and cargo airlines, acrobatic aircraft, spray planes, race planes and virtually any other general aviation application. It is available throughout the United States and is exported to other countries around the world.

Ive used this oil exclusively for many years in many engines and feel its as good as oil can be. Recently tore down an engine that went 3000 SMOH (except cyls) and the crank polished out to standard as well as the cam, lifters, gears etc. I also change oil in many other conts and lycomings and it always seems the filters from engines using Phillips are usually cleaner inside.

I like to use this oil because my Cessna 150 sits sometimes for 3 months or more. The oil guards against corrosion and my engine runs great all the time. Oil burn is very low also.

Q: What is the difference between the XC and XTC?

Per the supplier: We have not heard of XTC. Phillips oil does not have an XTC version, only X/C.

Q: Can I get the case price for the Phillips 66 X/C aviation oil 20W50?

You can select a case in the ordering drop down on this page. Once you make the selection, the part # and price for a case of 12 quarts will be displayed. It is also available in single quarts, a 55 gallon drum, or a case of 4 gallons.

Q: How can one read the date of manufacture from the bottle of Phillips 66 XC oil 20W50? And what is the shelf life?

For example, the code on the bottle will be formatted like this LL41A24017. To read the manufacture date, the first 5 characters are irrelevant. So, in this case, the date comes from 24017. To read it, it is the 240th day of the year 2017. If the code was LL41A00118, that would be manufactured January 1st, 2018. According to Phillips tech support, there is no set shelf life for this oil as long as it is stored properly. After 5 years, they recommend the oil be retested prior to use.

Q: Does Philips 66 cross country X/C 20/50 contain cam guard?

It does not but it can be added to it.

Q: Does the Phillips 66 20w50 12-case come with that handy blue oil spout?

Yes, each 12 quart case comes with a free pour spout.

Q: Is type m 20w50 compatabile with xc 20w50?

Type m is mineral oil for engine break in. You would not want to use it on an engine that is already broken in.

Q: What is the weight per case of the 12 x 1 liter of the Phillips 66XC oil?

1 case of 12 quarts weighs approximately 26 lbs.

Q: What is the difference between the XC and victory oil?

The Victory oils have the LW-16702 additive blended in.

Q: What is the difference between the XC 20w50 and the Victory 20w50? besides price?

The Victory oils have the LW-16702 additive in them. XC does not.

Q: Why does it say this is recommended for break in? is it a mineral oil? unsafe to use on already broken in engines?

Mineral oil is recommended for breaking in a new or overhauled engine. Phillips Type M straight oil contains high viscosity index based oils without detergents. Its safe to use but Phillips recommends a different oil after the engine is broken in. We always recommend consulting with your A&P/engine manufacturer for a recommendation on brand and type.
