I purchased this intercom about 6 years ago. It has worked great until recently when the wire to the battery broke off. I repaired the wire and it works great again.

A few years ago I purchased a four place intercom (Nav-Data) from Aircraft Spruce. Recently the toggle switch appears to have started failing. Something in the switch is causing the PPT to stay on even when I dont have the PPT pressed. It happens when I toggle over to radio (pilot). However, the co-pilot cant here me when its in the middle. I purchased the intercom and push-to-talk (also a Nav-Data product last month) from AirCraft Spruce. I jammed up the airways at the Prince George airport and got a serious lecture from air traffic controller. They thought my PPT was stuck, but I know its the toggle switch (or something associated with it) is failing when on the radio side. I had to unplug it to stop it from transmitting.

Not worth the money. Terribly noisy, can barely understand instructor, also distorts radio

Q: My pilot and copilot side headphones and mike work fine in my Cessna 177. The rear system does not work, can this unit be used to plug in the rear two and the copilot and would all four communicate with each other?

No, you cannot run two intercoms and have them work together. A portable intercom is intended to override the panel mount intercom. Your best bet is to buy a four place intercom and have everyone in the cabin plug into it and plug the intercom into the pilot side panel jacks.

Q: For the Nav-Data 4 place intercom, can 4 headsets be plugged in and communicate with each other without push to talk switches?

Yes, you would not need any additional components to communicate with 3 other headsets aside from the 9v battery to power it.

Q: Does this unit have a power jack so i can power it off the airplane or is it only off a 9v battery?

The Nav-Data 4 Place intercom will only work off the 9v battery plus a failsafe feature in the event of dead battery.

Q: Can this unit be used with David Clark H10-36 with a single helicopter plug?

To use this with the H10-36 helicopter headset, you would need adapter part number 11-10650.

Q: Does the Nav-Data 4 place intercom, part number 13-06088, use a 12 volt aka cigerett lighter plug?

No, this unit uses a 9V battery as it's power source.

Q: How do you install this?

This is a portable intercom. It does not require installation. It is ready to be used out of the box once the headsets are plugged in.

Q: Will this Nav Data work with Bose A20 headsets?

Yes, this will work with Bose A20 headsets outfitted with dual GA plugs.

Q: Are the radio and passengers settings mutually exclusive? If toggle switch is on radio, do the passengers hear the pilot and radio? Or, does it simply prevent the pilot from hearing the passengers? Likewise, if the toggle switch is on passengers can the pilot still hear the radio?

The pilot isolate switch allows the passengers to speak to each other. The pilot will only hear the radio.

Q: When using the portable intercom, does the yoke mounted PTT switch still work, or do I have to use the PTT switch on the intercom box?

If installed correctly inline you should be able to use a portable PTT switch mounted on the yoke.
