Overview

B-Kool™, named 2015 Best Portable Cooler by Aviation Consumer, provides an affordable solution to your portable cooling needs. B-Kool™ is not an evaporative cooler and therefore works well in high humidity areas.
Confirm your voltage needs prior to ordering.
Whether used in airplanes, campers, antique cars, or boats, B-Kool™ Portable Coolers readily fit most small spaces. Compact and weighing less than 10 pounds when empty, B-Kool™ Portable Coolers are easy to carry and stow.

A combination of ice (up to 25 pounds) and water (about 16 ounces) provides more than two hours of ice cold air. B-Kool™ recommends the use of block ice for the longest amount of cooling time.

Exclusive Kool-Flex™ vent hose is bendable and can be expanded to more than two feet. With air flow velocity of approximately 35 miles per hour, cool air can be effortlessly directed where needed.

B-Kool™ Portable Coolers are available in 12-volt and 24-volt units. Both units are available with either wireless remote control or with an on/off switch that plugs into a cigarette lighter.

Reviews

The B-Kool G5 Portable Cooling System with remote control has been a fantastic addition to my Cirrus SR22 G1, especially during hot summer days. Setting it up is straightforward—just add about 32 ounces of water to get the circulation pump working, and then I typically use 16 lbs of ice, which conveniently matches the two 8-lb bags commonly available at FBOs in my area. The system provides a refreshing blast of cold air, which can be easily directed where it’s needed most. I usually place the cooling duct between the pilot and co-pilot, but when I have passengers, I place it in the baggage compartment. The remote control has worked flawlessly within the aircraft, allowing me to turn the unit on and off without any issues, even when its stowed away. One of the main advantages of the remote is the ability to manage the unit during different phases of flight. I can turn it off once we reach altitude to conserve ice and then use it again during taxi at our destination. On average, the ice has lasted a few hours with intermittent use: 15-30 minutes during taxi at departure, 15 minutes during climb, and another 15-30 minutes upon arrival. However, there were some initial challenges. The breaker in my Cirrus couldn’t handle the amps required to power the unit, and I also encountered a defective cable. Fortunately, B-Kool’s customer service, particularly Adam, was top-notch. He promptly responded to my concerns, diagnosed the issues, and mailed me a new cable and remotes free of charge. He also recommended the Renogy 72000mAh 266Wh 12v Power Bank as a solution to the breaker issue, which has worked like a charm. The power bank barely touches its reserve, and as an added bonus, it doubles as a great charger for other devices, including a family member’s portable oxygen concentrator and cell phones. While there was an added expense for the power bank, it’s still far cheaper than installing an air conditioning unit or upgrading the circuit breaker. Plus, the additional utility of the power bank makes it a valuable investment. Overall, despite the minor hiccups, the B-Kool G5 is a 5-star product with 5-star service. I’m very happy with this purchase—choosing between a $34,000 A/C installation or a few hundred bucks for the B-Kool and power bank was an easy decision for me.

South Florida - August gets unbearable. Ill put 10 pounds of dry ice in this and I can keep the doors and windows closed on my 172 for over 3 hours. This is great!

Q: What is the difference between the G4 and G5?

Per the manufacturer: 5 has a detached power cord

Q: Is there a latch to keep the lid closed while flying?

There is not but the lid has a bit of a friction fit that helps keep it closed.

Q: Can you also fit drinks in the cooler?

It is not designed to store drinks as the air is being cooled inside the cooler.

Q: Will gel ice packs work in this?

Yes, the cool packs will work but the vendor recommends frozen blocks of ice.

Q: What dimension does the block ice have to be?

Per BKool: "Block ice can be of any size no larger than 6" x 7" to allow ample room to use several blocks stacked around the pump and hoses.

B-Kool will be offering custom sized ice blocks and trays in the near future for a perfect fit."
