Note: The Stratus A&P bundle includes a wiring harness and can be purchased over the counter for installation by an A&P.
The Stratus A&P bundle includes: Stratus ESG Kit, Stratus 3i Kit, and Wiring Harness. |
Neatly packaged and included everything needed for install except coax and associated terminations for transponder and GPS antenna. From an A&P perspective it was nice to have all the pins terminated and installed in connectors, although the dsub back shells were loose and could have been tightened by the tech assembling the harness. If I had to do it again I would order the cheaper kit and terminate all the pins myself so I could adjust the wire length for the cleanest install. It was more trouble figuring what to do with all the extra wiring, especially for the 3i and RS232 cables.
Appareo A&P Bundle With Stratus Esg
I have now installed this package in two Mudry CAP10B aircraft, one to replace an aging KT76A and the other to replace a Garmin GTX327. In each case the installation was about 6 hours total. The transponder tray is a bolt-in replacement for the other trays making for almost no mechanical work. The provided wiring harness worked with both Ack and Trans Cal encoders, requiring only power wiring to the combination. In addition, since the Appareo transponder allows the ADS-B in device to share the transponders antenna, there is no need to install a separate antenna for a UAT, further simplifying installation. Overall, installation is a breeze. Right now it appears to me that this package is far and away the easiest and least-expensive way to retrofit ADS-B out and dual-band ADS-B in to an aircraft, especially if it has an older tube-type transponder that is going to need replacement anyway.
Not a complete Bundle. May not find it to be a bargin. Did Basic install for Transponder/ADS-B Out compliance. No integration with other avionics. Supplied wiring harnesses not useful for basic install. No power cable for the GPS unit and more disappointingly no power out to the GPS from the head unit. Missing multiple connectors. No coax for the WAAS. Yes for $3k, I expect to hand it to my A&P with everything they need to do a basic install and not have to do part runs for $5 worth of parts.
