Q: Are the lengths of machine screws measured by the length of the threaded portion not including the head?

Yes, they are measured from the bottom of the head to the end of the screw, the threaded portion.

Q: The AN526C-440R8 is metric thread?

No, it is a standard 4-40 thread.

Q: What do the numbers in the thread size column mean? ie 4-40. what does the 4-40 mean

The first number is the size, or diameter, and the dash number is the thread count per inch. A #4 screw is .112" diameter.

Q: Regarding non-structural use of AN526 and AN365 hardware... What is the difference (reason for purchasing) stainless vs. Cad plated?

You may want to consult with your A&P for more details of which would be better for your application. We suggest using the hardware recommended in the aircraft parts and maintenance manuals.

Q: Is there a difference in strength between the CAD plated and the Stainless?

No, any strength difference would be based on the thread type. These all have a 55,000 psi minimum tensile strength.

Q: What does the R8 stand for in AN526C-632R8 and AN526C-440R8?

That is the length, R8 is 1/2 inch.

Q: Are these truss head screws or round head?

AN526 screws are Truss head.

Q: What colours do these AN526440R screws have? Are they black or silver?

These screws come in a silver CAD plated version.
