7084400 | 1.00" POST, 14 VDC | 11-01215 |
70844 series are LED (Light Emitting Diode) instrument post light assemblies designed to illuminate the instrument panel and function as instrument mounting bolts. It is a high quality, long lasting, modern alternative to standard incandescent post lights. They offer significant technological upgrades over existing products. Utilizing LED technology, the following advantages are offered: Long Life (approx. 20,000 hours); Reduced Power Consumption (compared to alternative light sources); Shock & Vibration Resistant (no fragile filament to burn out); Light (produces bright white light) and No EMI or RFI Interference. Available in 1" or 1.5" post and 14 VDC or 28 VDC. |
Though LED is the way to go, this product overall is weak. The housing and hood seem to be made of simple plastic and dont hold up to heat well. The hoods are attached by snapping on to the outside of the body, as such, they are easily knocked-off and they wear over time, loosing their grip. I dont see how one can change the LED (when needing replacement) without throwing the whole thing away. The LED is fixed to the body iteself, or I just cant see how t comes out. If true this will add to its overall cost. heads-up, I called the manufacturer about issues with the post light and they have indicated that they are unhappy with it and are going to discontinue this product
These lights are the worst. Guarantee the hood will fall off. Guarantee you will lose the hood. Guarantee this will happen over and over. Replacement hoods are $20 each, which is better than the $50 they used to be, but still, I am so sick of replacing these after every flight.

Per the manufacturer, the 70844 series assemblies are not dimmable and they would require a pulse width module in order to dim them. A rheostat would not work as the power consumption rates on the LED are not linear like in a halogen bulb so they would just shut off at a certain point.
