Q: Is this material used to make small planes or like RC planes? I am confused.

This is a core material which is used in many sandwich construction composite aircraft, but can also be used to shape and make small scale models or RC planes.

Q: Is this large cell styrofoam compatible with POLY EPOXY STRUCTURAL EPOXY SYSTEM?

Yes, the epoxy systems we offer are compatible with the styrofoam and polyurethane foams we stock, Poly Epoxy included.

Q: I am looking at using some of the large cell Styrofoam for a project. I will need to adhere it some metal and am trying to figure out if I can use the adhesive I have or if it will eat away at the Styrofoam. Do you know what chemicals cannot be put on the foam?

It cannot be a solvent based adhesive which would consist of acetone or MEK. Epoxy adhesives are commonly used and will not hurt the foam.

Q: If you use this foam as a core for a sandwich layup, can it be postcured? If so, what is the maximum temperature that can be used without damaging the foam?

Max service temp is 165*F. You would first want to make a test panel and post cure at or below this temp to insure the safety of your part.

Q: Can this foam be cut with a hot wire?

Yes, large and small cell styrofoam can be cut with with a hot wire.

Q: The description says this is expanded foam. Is that a typo? EPS is not suitable for structural use in building aircraft. Since this is a homogenious closed-cell matrix, NOT made up of beads, isnt this product actually extruded foam (XPS)?

It is Dow XPS foam.

Q: Is this styrofoam sandable?

Yes, it is sandable large cell. Be careful with stronger grade of sandpaper which can take out large chunks. Higher grit sandpaper is better for sanding.
